Well it was blowing a hooley today, but we had a nearly full card for our final open of the season at Newbattle.
It was a busy day at the club, and the competition committee and the rest of the council at Newbattle would like to thank all our staff and volunteers who have helped stage our opens this year.
The kitchen and bar did great trade and we thank our bar staff and our caterers for keeping the golfers fed and watered throughout the day – great job!
Many thanks also to the greens staff, and volunteers, who prepared the course to an excellent standard once again. We received many plaudits about the quality of the course.
Last but not least, a big thank-you to the guys in the shop and the volunteer starters who got us all registered and set us all away today,
We hope you all enjoyed your golf, and food/drinks to follow, and we look forward to welcoming you back some time in the future. We are just finalising our dates for next year, so keep an eye out on BRS, or Golf Empire for next year’s fixtures.
Prizes are awarded for the top 6 handicap scores today, and the best scratch, and Scottish Golf vouchers will be sent to your home clubs if you were lucky enough to win today. As ever if you qualify for a scratch and a handicap prize, you get awarded the one of the higher value, while the next best placed team will receive the other prize.

Nevertheless we had some very good scores coming in. Congratulations to all todays winners.
We have to thank allthe staff and volunteers at Newbattle today who made the day a success. The Greenkeeping staff who presented the course in excellent condition, the bar staff and catering team who kept the players fed and watered, the boys in the pro-shop who dealt with registration, and our volunteer starters who set you on your way.
Jim Stuart and Jean Robertson won the best Nett while Kenneth and Phanomporn Walker picked up the scratch prize.

That is Andy Pratt, John Lynch or Mark McGill.
The rules for the competition are posted on the notice-board beside the draws.
Thanks
Competition Committee.
First time we have followed the 2 ball better ball format which produced some excellent scores. Thanks to all who participated. We had some great weather over the 2 days.
A special call out to the bar and green staff for their work in setting up and dismantling the bar at the 9th over the 2 days. Greatly appropriated.
Please see link below for results from the Gents Invitational. The winning vouchers will be prepared over the coming days and be available from the office or bar.
We had another fantastic tournament over 2 days on 29th and 30th of July, and we would like to thank all of those who took part in making it another great year. We always appreciate your support for the club, and hope you enjoyed the day and will return next year.
We were blessed with excellent weather over the 2 days. Mostly sunny, no rain, and only light winds. So some of the scoring was excellent over the course of the tournament.
The golf course was in excellent condition. The feedback we received on the days was fantastic, and our thanks go to Jim, our head greenkeeper, his greens team, and our volunteers for their hard work in getting the course ready for the tournament.
Many thanks to all the bar and catering staff, for their service over the day. They provided fabulous service throughout the day, and our extended kitchen opening hours proved very popular.
Also many thanks go out to the staff in the pro shop and the volunteers who helped with starting all the players across the 2 days. We could not put these events on without your support.
Prizes were awarded this year for the top 8 handicap scores, and for the top 3 scratch scores in each age category (where any player qualifies for a prize in both scratch and handicap, only the higher award is paid, with the smaller prize moving onto the next best player in the relevant category). This year we also had nearest the pin prizes on our 4 par 3s on both days.
If you entered the 2s sweep, and were lucky enough to have made one, please contact the professional shop on 0131 660 1631 for details of how to redeem your prize. Scott or Craig will be happy to help you.
If you want to enjoy a return visit to Newbattle this year, we have a Senior Gents 2-man scramble on Thursday 18th September for only £15 a head. There are still quite a few spaces remaining for what is a great fun day.
Please view link for a full list of the winners.
NB. In some instances, the system gets the countback wrong. These have all been manually checked to ensure that the prize winners are correct.
