A special call out to Lorna, Jason, Ross Henderson and Jim Bunce for their work in setting up and dismantling the bar at the 9th over the 2 days. Greatly appropriated.

Gents Invitational 2026

Gents Senior Open 2026

We had another great tournament over 2 days on 28th and 29th of July, and we would like to thank all of those who took part in making it another great year. We always appreciate your support for the club. We  hope you enjoyed the day and will return next year.

The Weather presented a real challenge at times – especially for the later starters on the Wednesday. But most of the players managed to play through the torrent!

The golf course was in excellent condition. The feedback we received on both days was fantastic, and our thanks go to Jim, our head greenkeeper, his greens team, and our volunteers for their hard work in getting the course ready for the tournament.

Many thanks to all the bar and catering staff, for their service over the day. They provided fabulous service throughout the day, and our extended kitchen opening hours proved very popular, as did the inclusion of the breakfast roll in this year’s entry fee.

Also many thanks go out to the staff in the pro shop and the volunteers who helped with starting all the players across the 2 days. We could not put these events on without your support.

Prizes were awarded this year for the top 8 handicap scores, and for the top 3 scratch scores in each age category (where any player qualifies for a prize in both scratch and handicap, only the higher award is paid, with the smaller prize moving onto the next best player in the relevant category).

If you entered the 2s sweep, and were lucky enough to have made one, please contact the professional shop on 0131 660 1631 for details of how to redeem your prize. Callam, Lee or Jane will be happy to help you.

If you want to enjoy a return visit to Newbattle this year, we have a Senior Gents 2-man scramble on Thursday 17thh September for only £21 a head (including a breakfast roll and coffee prior to your round).  There are still spaces remaining for what is a great fun day.

Please view link for a full list of all the winners, and a full list of scores so you can see how you fared.

Finals Day – 2026

Finals day had, thankfully, beautiful weather for golf. While some of the qualifying matches has been played in frankly horrendous conditions, we were delighted to see that the sun shone for Finals day.

We had 8 championships altogether – and it’s a big day to organise. We cannot do it without the help and support of a number of people. On the day we would like to than all our volunteer referees, and our match starter. Thanks too to all the bar staff, and catering staff who were all were on hand to keep the players fed and watered and look after all the supporters who came down to watch and enjoy the finals day atmosphere.

The course was in great nick too, and our thanks go to the greens team, and our volunteers here who prepared the course so well.

Some of our winners are pictured here, although unfortunately our Junior champion, and our B and C class champions were unavailable for the picture.

The Results

So, another year’s champions have been crowned, and we would once again like to thank everyone who contributed to the day’s success, whether as a player, a supporter, a  referee, a starter, a volunteer or a member of one of the key teams who always support Newbattle; whether that be Greens, Bar, Catering or Professional shop.

If it wasn’t you in a final this year – there’s always next year!!

Whitburgh Cup 2026

It was a tricky day for golf at Newbattle today for our annual scratch open, the Whitburgh Cup. There was a strong and gusty wind that, coupled with some tricky pin positions, made it tough to go really low and that was reflected in some of the scoring.

2 very steady rounds of 70 were enough to seal victory for Jamie McIntosh from Broomiknowe in these challenging conditions. Congratulations to Jamie.

Many thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Newbattle today for helping the day run smoothly. The starters who saw the players out, the bar and catering staff, and to the guys in the Pro shop that sorted out the registration of all our players today. Special mention to our assistant pro – Lee who stayed on late to help record all the second round scores after an error in the competition software. We couldn’t run our opens without this continued support from everyone involved.

A special mention also to Gary Mellon for recording a hole in one at the 8th today – Gary used to play at Newbattle but is now at Haddington. Thanks for the dram Gary – very welcome after 36 holes in that wind!

Prizes are awarded for the top 5 scratch totals, and the best 2 handicap scores. Vouchers for the winners will be sent to your home clubs where you will be able to collect them.
