Senior Mixed Open Greensomes – Prizes and Winners
It was a beautiful sunny day and perfect for golf. The course was looking magnificent and our thanks go to the green keepers for their hard work. There were many compliments on the state of the course from the players. The bar and kitchen staff had a busy day and we thank them for their attention. The new ‘Ladies Table’ in the Pro Shop for the event was well depleted at the end of the day and we thank Scott for arranging this for us. Our thanks go to the Starters and helpers on the day who made this a smooth event to run.
We were collecting for the Gorebridge Foodbank and Alzheimer’s Scotland (East and Midlothian) and raised a fantastic £385 in raffle money for these two very necessary causes. Many ladies left with a selection of raffle prizes having had an excellent day out.
There were 6 handicap prizes and some spot prizes at specific holes. Here are the results ……
Senior Ladies Open Greensomes – Prizes and Winners
We finally made it…
The Newbattle gents seniors open took place over 2 days, unfortunately over the space of 2 weeks on Tuesday and Wednesday 1st and 16th August. The weather meant the course was closed for the 2nd days play on the 2nd August but even with the rain we had, the course was in excellent condition and commented on by a number of visitors. Many thanks to our green staff for preparing the course to such a great.
Many thanks to all the bar and catering staff, for their service over the day. Also many thanks go out to the staff in the office, pro shop who helped with rearranging the days and to all the volunteers who helped prepare the course, and helped with starting all the players across the 2 days. We could not put these events on without this support.
We hope all participants enjoyed their day and we hope to see many of you back next year. A lot of you have told us you would definitely be back which is great to hear.
Prizes are awarded for the top 7 handicap scores, and for the top two scratch scores in each age category (where any player qualifies for a prize in both scratch and handicap, only the higher award is paid, with the smaller prize moving onto the next best player in the relevant category).

Newbattle Gents Seniors Open 2023
Thanks to everyone who participated in this years invitational Silloth competition, which took place over both days of this weekend (5th and 6th August)
Silloth is a great event that welcomes guests from other clubs.
There were some terrific scores on both days and the list of winners is attached – 6 handicap and 2 scratch prizes were awarded – congratulations to all.
Many thanks to all those who helped on both days; with a special call out to Jim Bunce, Alex Forrester and Ian Sneddon for the support with the building and dismantling of the tent and ferrying up supplies. Also thanks to Lorna, Danny and their teams for the service in the golf club.
Jim and his green staff, the visitors could not have complemented the course any higher. We will all agree the course is in great condition given the busy period faced with the Pro Day, Gents Senior Open and the Silloth all in the space of a week. Thank you all.
And, here are the results – many congratulations to all the winners. All vouchers are held under the winning members names for you to share. Also any sweep money for 2s can be picked up in the pro shop.
The day dawned grey and wet, but by competition start, the clouds had risen and the drizzle had
slackened then shortly petered out to leave a dry, close day for most of the competitors.
The greenkeeping staff were out adding their final touches and there were many complimentary
comments from the players on their return. They thought the course was looking fantastic and the
greens were fabulous, though tricky and fast with only two players succeeding with a two.
The Pro Shop was busy with competition start preparations and attracting sales from the new ladies’
stock table. Our volunteers and starters kept things moving and the in-house staff were kept busy
throughout the day with a variety of refreshments. Thank you for all your attention to everyone.
A variety of golf clubs were represented with an outing from Melrose. Everybody enjoyed
themselves both on and off the course with many raffle prizes awarded. This year we are collecting
for the Gorebridge Foodbank and Alzheimer’s Scotland (East and Midlothian) and raised £232 today.
There are 12 handicap prizes, 4 scratch prizes together with spot prizes at specific holes, a Veterans
prize and a Best Newbattle prize. Individuals will be contacted and vouchers will be sent out in the
next day or two.
And Here are the results….
We had excellent weather for our annual scratch open tournament. Virtually no breeze and a hot spell of sunshine. The dry weather over the last few days, made it a fast running track though; and this along with some tricky pins made shooting low very challenging. Nevertheless there was some good golf played.
Many thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Newbattle today for helping the day run smoothly. A special shout out to the green-keeping staff for preparing the course to such excellent condition – lots of compliments from the players today. Also many thanks to our catering and bar staff for keeping everyone fed and watered, and to the guys in the pro-shop for getting everyone registered and away smoothly.
Prizes are awarded for the top 6 scratch totals, and the best 3 handicap totals over 36 holes. Vouchers for the winners will be sent to your home clubs where you will be able to collect them.
As ever, if you qualify for both a handicap and a scratch prize, you will receive only the higher valued award and the next eligible player will pick up the voucher.
Where scores are tied, the ties are settled by whoever had the best individual round, and if still tied, who had the better 2nd round.
