It was a tricky day for golf at Newbattle today for our annual scratch open, the Whitburgh Cup. The recent dry weather means we have a quick running course, and the strong and gusty winds added to that challenge. A really excellent 2nd round of 64 propelled our winner Sean Marc, of Broomiknowe to a 3 shot victory with a 134 total for the 36-hole event.
Many thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Newbattle today for helping the day run smoothly. The starters who saw the players out, the bar staff, and to the guys in the Pro shop that sorted out the registration of all our players today
The dry weather has made it a challenge for our greenkeeping staff, but they have risen to that challenge and presented the course in excellent condition. We had many great comments from our many visitors today about the quality of the course.
Prizes are awarded for the top 5 scratch totals, and the best 2 handicap scores. Vouchers for the winners will be sent to your home clubs where you will be able to collect them.
As ever, if you qualify for both a scratch and a handicap prize, you will receive only the higher valued prize and the next eligible player will pick up the other voucher.

What a great day for golf – Sunny and dry, and though the wind picked up later in the day it was a nigh on perfect day.
Many thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Newbattle today for helping the day run smoothly. The starters who saw the players out, the bar staff, and kitchen staff, and to the guys in the Pro shop that sorted out the registration of all out players today
The course was in great condition, though due to the recent spell of hot, dry weather, it was a fast running track, and a real challenge in the wind that sprung up. We got a lot of compliments on the day about the preparation of the course and our thanks go to our greens staff who had prepared it to such a great standard.
Prizes are awarded for the top 10 handicap totals, and the best 4 scratch scores. Vouchers for the winners will be sent to your home clubs where you will be able to collect them.
As ever, if you qualify for both a handicap and a scratch prize, you will receive only the higher valued prize and the next eligible player will pick up the other voucher.

Well done to all…
Thanks to everyone who participated in this years invitational Silloth competition, which took place over both days of this weekend (3rd and 4th August)
Silloth is a great event that welcomes guests from other clubs.
There were some terrific scores on both days and the list of winners is attached – 6 handicap and 2 scratch prizes were awarded – congratulations to all. Over Saturday and Sunday 2 holes in one were achieved, the 3rd on Saturday and the 8th on Sunday. Well done to John Thomson (Haddington) on the Saturday and Greig Brown (Kings Acre) on the Sunday.
Many thanks to all those who helped on both days; with a special call out to Jim Bunce, Dino Cramond and Ian Sneddon for their over the weekend. Also thanks to Lorna, Nikki and their teams for the service on the course and in the clubhouse.
Jim and his green staff, the visitors could not have complemented the course any higher. We will all agree the course is in great condition given the busy period faced with the Pro Day, Gents Senior Open and the Silloth all in the space of a week. Thank you all.
And, here are the results – many congratulations to all the winners. All vouchers are held under the winning members names for you to share. Also any sweep money for 2s can be picked up in the pro shop.
